XMEC Social Assist is now a Registered Society - Wed Oct 8, 2008

Hello Friends

It gives all of us immense pleasure to share good news with all of
you. After more than 18 months of continuous and not-so continuous
efforts, we were able to register XSA (XMEC Social Assist) as a
Society.

Now XSA is a registered society and hence will be able to expand its
activity. As you are aware, XSA has been helping out individuals
especially for medical treatments. We would like to expand these
activities to include the following:
a) To address issues affecting human life such as health care,
environment and women's issues.
b) To provide scholarship for educational purpose to students of Model
Engineering College and other colleges.

As a first step, we have agreed that we would take up the following programs:
1) Helping people needing financial help for medical treatment
2) Provide 50% scholarship to 5 students from 1st / 2nd year at MEC
who are on the full fees payment scheme (this will be required to be
paid every year till they complete the education)
3) Keep a quantum of money to help needy students on a case by case
basis to take care of urgent requirements
To take care of the above, the bye-laws allow creation of two
sub-committees – one for social help and other for student
scholarship. We invite volunteers to join these sub-committees. Please
drop a mail to any of the current office bearers (email id provided
below)

To go into a bit of history on formation of the society, we had sent
out a request for volunteers in beginning of 2007. Based on the same,
we had gone about working on the formation of the society with the
following office bearers:
1. George C. Kuriakose Batch of 1994 President
2. Roshni Firoz Batch of 2003 Vice President
3. Shabana M. Batch of 2003 Secretary
4. Sanish N.S. Batch of 2003 Treasurer
5. Rajesh M V. Batch of 1994 Member
6. Nirmal U. Batch of 2003 Member
7. Pramod Kumar P G Batch of 2002 Member
8. Ashley Jose Batch of 2002 Member

The next steps which we are embarking on are:
1) Opening of Bank accounts for the medical treatment schemes and the
scholarship schemes
2) Work with principal and teachers to define the guideline for help to students

To bring in a financial discipline to the society, the following types
of memberships have been set (only XMECians can apply for this):
1) Ordinary member by paying Rs. 500/- annually
2) Life Member by paying an amount of Rs. 5000/- as a single lump sum payment

Members would be able to provide suggestions and give feedbacks to the
cub-committees with regards to its functioning. Even without being a
member, any XMECians can donate to any specific cause and also forward
cases to the notice of the sub-committees. We would also invite
donations from non-XMECians also, but voting membership would be
restricted to XMECians.

The Bye-laws and the Memorandum of Association has been uploaded in
the files section of the yahoogroups for further reference
