This mail is regarding a small child, who is need of help right now... Her name is baby Reyona, 2 years old and she is the daughter of Mr.Stervin Antony... Stervin works in Geojit Kochi, and that is how I came to know about it... (My sister works there)..
The child has bilateral profound hearing loss, so she can not hear and hence does not talk also.. According to Dr.Sunil J, ENT Surgeon in KERF (Kerala ENT Research Foundation, Kollam), she needs cochlear Implantation and Speech Therapy for her better future;failure to conduct this surgery will lead to life long disability of hearing and speech.
As per the hospital Authorities total cost for the operation comes around 5-8.5 Lakh Rupees.
I did a seach in wiki, and it seems be quite costly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cochlear_implants)
They are not a wealthy family, and all of Stervins life savings would amount to about 1 Lakh Rupees.. They are looking for the rest of the money and finding it quite difficult.. They tried to get some amount from the PM's relief fund, but that also did not work out..
The time delay is just making things worse, because the doctor has said that the earlier the implant is done, the better.. I have uploaded (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xmec/files/Social%20Assist/Reyona/) some scanned document copies that I received..
I am very well aware that 8.5 Lakhs is quite a big amount and we might not be able to do much, but then every little helps..
