XSA goes "Social" and a fun campaign

Hi All

XMEC Social Assist goes “Social”.

Now XSA has a page of its own on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/XMECSocialAssist  and also a blog page http://xmecsocialassist.blogspot.com/.

All future endeavours and updates would be posted at both the blog and the facebook page. Currently the facebook page is close to having 100 fans. The page will give a good forum for interaction with you on the various activities and to have your feedbacks and suggestion to enhance XSA’s activities. There are over 2000 XMECians out in the world with more than 50% accessing facebook. We would like to have most of the XMECians to be fans of XSA and thus spread the good word across

For all past XSA activities, please go through the blog: http://xmecsocialassist.blogspot.com

Fun Campaign for facebook page:

We are trying to get as many XMECians as possible to be Fans of the XSA page on facebook and would be working on that during the month of May and June. To make this interesting there are a couple of challenges

1)      Predict the “Number of Fans”: All you have to do is to go to XSA page on facebook and click on the “Like” button and give your prediction for number of Fans that we would reach by midnight of 30th June, 2011 (IST). Predictions are to be made by 15th May. (Existing fans can also predict the number by posting it on the page)

The best predictor would win cash prize (amount to be declared later). So go ahead and make your predictions

2)      Contribute to XSA: To make this campaign interesting, need volunteers to donate to XSA based on the number of fans reached by midnight of 30th June, 2011 (IST). So you can commit to donate Re x/- per fan and keep a cap on it. We have a volunteer ready to donate Rs 1/- per fan subject to a cap of Rs 1000/-. You can decide on the amount per fan and the cap for the maximum donation.

Calling for volunteers to make the campaign more interesting

Thanks and Regards

XMEC Initiatives - 2011

Dear XMECians,

Over the past one year there has been few initiatives taking shape, mostly initiated by smaller groups of XMECians. We thought that it would be a good time to let everyone know what has been going on and make some of these initiatives more broad based.

XMEC Social Assist - XSA has already been doing a great job with limited resources they have for the past many years. Last year we had raised funds for five patients and had a fund raising effort aimed at providing scholarship for MEC students. Thanks to all the XMECians who responded enthusiastically to their call, the scholarship is operational now. Please visit and be fans of the XSA group on facebook to appreciate the team’s efforts. The ground work for this year’s scholarship has already started.
XSA would be approaching us soon with more details and please make sure that we make the scholarship scheme a great success. The programme can be sustained only if we can continue to raise funds, or better still, raise enough money to setup a corpus fund to keep it going.
Great job team XSA - Ashley Jose , George C Kuriakose, Nirmal Unnikrishnan, Pramod P G, Rajesh M V, Roshni Firoz, Sanish N S, Shabana Musthafa
XMECian newsletter - I am sure all of you have been receiving XMECian (previously Bangalore Gazette), the newsletter published by the Bangalore based 2K9 batch of XMECians, which is informative as well as entertaining. Looking at its success, we had requested them to increase the coverage to all the regions and they agreed to do that. This however would require a lot of coordination, and we would be needing volunteers in each regional chapter to ensure that we have enough content to keep it going. We welcome any content that is relevant to this group and could be on topics on technical, management, fiction, humour etc., and encourage those who have a flair for writing (or even lack of it) to generously contribute to make this a bigger success.
Team XMECian would be getting back to us requesting for volunteers and for content.
Thank you team XMECian for agreeing to make it a global news letter - Cijo George, Cyriac, Harisankar, Nitin Jose, Nubin Stanley, Rahul Pisharody, Ravi, Roshan Roy, Thejus Krishna, Mathew Manavalan, Scaria, Vishnu sugadhan, Vyas
xmec4mec – This is a new initiative from Nandana Dutt and Saju Sivaji that is being piloted now. The students have formed a cell by name Alumni Interactive Cell (AIC), which is going be our primary interface with college. xmec4mec has been working closely with the AIC to chart out various activities that could be taken up as part of this initiative (mentoring, guest lectures, mock interviews, resume reviews etc. to name a few).
Team xmec4mec would be contacting us soon regarding their activities and hoping that many of us would be signing up for various activities
AIC team presently consists of Ann Maria Jose, Cinash P, Nithin A Valentine, Sebin Kuriakose, Toby Babu (all placement committee members), Manu Sreenivasan and Vyas
XMEC website - One of the key items on our plate was getting the XMEC website up and running again, and that work is in progress. The present effort has been carried out with effort from students as well as some alumni members during their spare time. Based on the functionalities we manage to build, we may move of some or all of the forums above to our website.
Those who have ideas/suggestions on the XMEC website or are willing to help out with it, please contact Vyas
XMEC/AAMEC meeting – While meeting of the regional chapters have been going for many years now, it is high time that we met officially (For those who are not aware, we have an official alumni association called AAMEC – Alumni Association of MEC – which has been defunct for many years now). Principal (Dr. Sureshkumar P) has agreed to host the meeting at MEC in December 2011 (tentative).
We shall be confirming the event soon and hope that many of us can make it to the event.
Please feel free to email us at xmec with comments and suggestions.

Thanks,
On behalf of XMEC alumni executive committee,
Manu Sreenivasan
