Scholarship and Social Assist Fund - Fri Feb 23, 2007

Dear Friends

It has been over a month since I visited the college and hence a bit delayed on updating all on the meeting with teachers there

Pramod (98-02) batch and I had met few of the teachers including Rajesh MV, Krishnadas sir and Johnson sir. This meeting was in continuation of the efforts done by Rajesh and XSA for the funds for a student in the college

It was decided that we need to make this more functional, systematic and an ongoing venture. The meeting was really fruitful as we noticed a very positive approach on behalf of the college. We hope that the same would continue even though there have been some changes in the college.

It was suggested that the staff would be able to set up a help desk for the students. This would be to help the students in all aspects (educational, monetary, etc). They would also be able to select the students for the scholarship and other financial help.

In the last few years, many of us have tried to set up a scholarship fund and worked partially towards the same without reaching the end point. This is a good time to restart those initiatives and make the dream a reality.

Hence calling for volunteers to work on the scholarship scheme. Will need a commitment of a few hours a week in the initial period.

The initial work involved would be:
- Decide on the structure of the scholarship fund.
- Decide on the selection criteria for the right student
- Drive the fund-raising for the same.
- Expand the social commitment work of XSA

Hence, if you are interested in volunteering, please send a mail to me (george.c.kuriakose@...) or Pramod (pg.pramodkumar@...)

Currently the XSA team (Pramod, Ashley, Shabana, Roshni), Vyas, Rajesh and me have been involved in the discussions.

Also would need help from a Chartered Accountant or lawyer to understand the process of setting up a charitable society / Trust. Hence if any of your near relatives is a CA / lawyer, it would be great if we could take their help on the same

We also discussed on other initiatives such as to allow alumni to participate in the arts festival, take sessions to the students, have staff and students participate in the alumni activities. Hopefully all these would become reality in the near future.

Looking forward to the day when no person is denied admission to MEC for lack of funds. Together we will be able to achieve it.

Regards,
